In some ways George I wasn t surprised by The Times article you mentioned except for the scale of the targeting. And I think it goes on more than we care to imagine. There was that old lady in Bristol who committed suicide after being harassed for money more than she could afford; ironically supporting the RBL. I did wonder whether it was just coincidence after I gave ?£45 to the St.John s Ambulance a few years ago I was bombarded by several other charities for donations very soon after. It would seem they share information whom to target. It makes you wonder how that fits in with the Data Protection Act. I was at least pleased to read the charities I give to by direct debit weren t mentioned.

I see from The Times this morning that a number of charities including the Royal British Legion have been fined for irregularities. It goes like this some well meaning and generous benefactor makes a donation the charities then send out teams to assess their wealth including size of property and general financial circumstances. I that person fits the criteria then are then targeted by the other charities in an effort to par them from more donations. This has been going on for years but sending out research teams is a new angle. Naturally invaluable lessons have been ignored and no pay pensions or bonuses are at risk. John le Carre eh?

Well Article 50 done. So what next. The Gibraltar spin by Spain in the Discussion document is I hope a Bargaining point if not then it is a bumpy road ahead. Without doubt and before we can discuss anything the Compo figure is no. 1 on the agenda. This will be in the region of 50/70 Billion euro. When this is out of the way then it s People. Can they stay or should they go. My bet is that if you were here before the referendum then you can stay. Same for Brits abroad. The future movement will be dependant on the next negotiations reference trade and Tariff s. If that works out then we are nearly home and dry. If it all goes Pear shape then it s a hard time for all. I as you know voted to stay but here we are lets get on with it. Be interesting to see if we end up nearly where we were in terms of movement trade etc. Chalky

Was up in Catterick 24 Sigs in early 67 where we had a SSM who had a very bad lisp so much so that when he got annoyed and shouted at you you very quickly we showered in spit. I think his name was Thompkinson or Thompson. On this particular morning as we filed out of the Sandhurst blocks and got ready for 1st works parade it was pouring down so we went into the drill shed to shelter. When the SSM arrived he was livid and shouted Unless the oil from the Torrey Canyon has reached Catterick by tomorrow morning you WILL parade on the square

Like Chris I remember the event. I was in Germany with 25 Corp Engineers Reg Osnabruck. I had no idea that the JLR Regiment was called in until one of the reunions when the subject came up
