For Les Gallop I was in nig wing with your brother we all called him Fred we both learnt to swim at Torquay baths, I remember your dad was prison officer at Dartmoor Prison and when we were on trips across the moors Fred sometimes sorted routes near your parents home for a cupper. Lost touch when we left Denbury heard of his death while serving in Cyprus we had some good laughs I am sure he is sorely missed

IMPORTANT NEWS.
It is proposed to make the Barnsley reunion a "Memorial" event to Bob Wathen given that we are unable to do other things that we would normally do.
Bob was one of the very best of people and I never ever heard him say anything nasty towards anyone, not ever.
Lets try and make this reunion a little bigger than it is at the moment in memory of Bob.
As some may know Bob had a "True Love" of classical music and I am seeing if I can get together a quartet to play through dinner in his memory.
Lastly the funds raised (albeit small due to the circumstances and not your generosity) is sufficient to purchase a "Memorial" bench in Bobs memory. The placement for this yet to be decided. Perhaps you guys that did walks with him would be best to consult.
So if you have not yet booked and would like to attend in memory of Bob get cracking.
Chalky

Hi All, May I express my extreme thanks and appreciation for the number of goodwill wishes, when I was a wee bit under the weather. I warms my heart to think that everyone clubs together in support of another Denbury Boy. Special thanks go to Phil Kirk, for paying me a visit, and, nearly getting us both chucked out of hospital with his bottle of whisky Xmas present for me. Also to George McIntosh, who resolutely texted me at 0630hrs to ask how I was. Many thanks lads.Once again, you will not be forgotten Denbury Boys. Cheers. Jock.

Chalky & All, I think the idea of a park bench in Bob's memory would be a fitting tribute. It could be suitably engraved with a brass plate giving his name and JLR/Ten Tors significance and sited in NA or in a Dartmoor park area perhaps. HMP Channings Wood manufacture this type of furniture. I am happy to make a donation and will contact Chalky privately. I wont be going to the Barnsleyfest as I'll be in S.Ireland. Apols if this comes up twice but my first attempt didn't seem to send properly.

Jim Brown, thank you so much for your message, yes we lived in Princetown and although I was too young to remember I'm sure my mum would have made you and your mates a drink if you were passing, that made me smile that he would just "happen" to be passing our house.
His middle name was Frederick, so I would love to find out if he chose the name Fred or was just given it by his mates.
My brother has quite a few photos that he is sending me and I am hoping to be able to post them on here if I can in the future.

Why do Aussies keep calling us Brits pohms. Surely they are POHMs Prisoners Of His/Her Majesty. (Not sure who reigned then). Ha Ha
