What a lovely Easter weekend. Lovely HOT! Sunshine and a "Burst" pipe in the offices that ruined all the offices and SOAKED the factory. The Yorkshire Water Team measured the flow leak as 5.5lts/Second for some 39 hours. Cause a plastic pipe that expanded in the heat on a bend. All carpets furniture, computers, files equipment lost. This is the second time in 10 years that this has happened to us. Not as bad as the 2007 Flood as this is clean water. Got back into production within 3 days. What a bloody good team I have.

As some of you already know Ted Lyth Iron Troop H passed away on Tuesday 15th February after his long battle.
His funeral is in Plymouth on Wednesday 2nd of March. At this point I have no further details of times but will post as soon as I have them. His wife Sue has asked me for a few word about his army time. Whilst I can put some words together about Denbury, did anyone serve with Ted later on. Any info appreciated

I was honoured to be invited by his family to attend both the Funeral and Remembrance Ceremony of Glenn Harwood.
I found out a few things about Glenn that I never knew, him Having been my Best Man back in January 71. He had a brother and sister.
I have published below, the Eulogy that was presented by his nephew and best friend James
3 weeks ago today I lost someone very close to me, my Uncle, Glenn Harwood.
Over the past 16 years Glenn and I became very close and he turned from being just a family member to one of my best friends. We spent many hours doing the things we both loved, shooting, walking and working our dogs, although he insisted on keeping spaniels as opposed to Labradors, which as we know are proper dogs, watching Rugby also eating and drinking in London whilst I may add, taking in the scenery (and I am not talking architecture). He also passed on the Harwood family tradition of enjoying very good red wine and port, something his father taught him and in turn he taught me.
In the first few days of shooting and generally socialising together I learnt a very Important life lesson from Glenn, EVERYBODY needs a Jenny… and I Know those of you that have spent any time in his company will agree.
Throughout his life Glenn achieved many things, firstly for me, one of his greatest achievements was going all the way from Junior Signalman aged 15 to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel aged 55, receiving an MBE from the Queen along the way. He had many wonderful stories to tell and I am sure he bored many of you with them. One of the things Army life gave Glenn was his love of travel, and this endured right up until the end when he still managed to fit in at least 2 trips abroad each year, starting with Brussels in the spring checking out the beer, to the seafood in Spain at least once during the summer.
Glenn as you all know wasn’t a man to give to much away, but what I can tell you is that two of the proudest times in Glenn’s life were firstly becoming a Father to Sam, and in turn Becoming a Grandfather to Paige, Emma, and Josh, who I know he very much enjoyed spending time with especially out walking the dogs together.
It seems ironic that after taking part in 2 wars, and numerous other operations, surviving a serious parachute accident and pancreatic cancer that Glenn should eventually come to a stop with his tool, sorry, Leatherman in his hand doing something as mundane as trying to fix a radiator. And I must say Glenn, this time Jenny is really CROSS!
A great all-round sportsman, he played Rugby at a very high level. During his time with the Army, he was a ski instructor, parachute instructor and a diving instructor, in fact he was the original action man. One of my special memories will be that during the last couple of years Glenn was able to watch me wobble around the Rugby Park, joining me in the bar afterwards for the standard post-match traditions. I had once suggested I may join him on a sky dive, to which he responded, you are far too fat Baker – say no more.
After an unsuccessful attempt at retirement, Glenn became very active as firstly a Parish, then later as both a District and County Councillor, becoming Deputy Leader for East Northants Council, he was passionate about the local community and served the public well, never afraid to voice his opinions, but always able to maintain a fair and balanced approach to issues.
One of the only times I have ever known Glenn rendered speechless was nearly 4 years ago when over a pint of beer in one of our favourite watering holes, I asked him to be my best man. Again, a typical Glenn response was – why do you have no real friends. He gladly accepted and did a sterling job for me as only Glenn would, and it was on my stag party that he inherited the nick name colonel cod-piece. I know that the highlight for him of the wedding day was upsetting my mother, his sister, during the best man’s speech. The reason for which will forever remain a secret between Glenn and myself, however, I now know that I have the last laugh.
As many of you will know, Glenn was a man who liked to have all of his affairs in order, and whilst sorting through his things, we have found many instructions in red and underlined “Jenny read” and “Jenny important”……… but I feel the most important and significant instruction left by Glenn was…… the beers are on you today Smith!!

TEN TORS 2022 (60th Anniversary) - Below is a Message I have received from Tony Clark (Lt Col Retd):
Dear Tony,
May I introduce myself. I am the adviser to the Director Ten Tors having been involved with the Event for 28 years. Amongst my tasks is to lead on the 60th anniversary celebrations.
Your help and guidance please. Ten Tors 22 is to be held over the weekend 7/8 May. The organisers would like to invite some of the Denbury Boys who took part in the Challenge in the early 1960s to join us in celebrating the 60th Ten Tors Challenge on Sunday 8 May. Please let me know who we should contact to coordinate the invitation.
Secondly, we are organising an exhibition of photographs and memorabilia. May we please use the images on this website? What is the best way of making an appeal for more images, memories and memorabilia?
And thirdly, there will be a team of young people taking part in the 45mile Challenge wearing and equipped as they would have been in the early 1960s and a static stand in the Finish area showing how Control would have operated and the patrols dressed and equipped. We are looking for a few people who could advise and looking to loan some kit that might be in Denbury Boys' attics. In particular, we are looking for a balaclava.
Having explained our plans, please advise on how best to approach this. I see from your website that Bernie Temmen wrote up Denbury Boys' Ten Tors 2021 Challenge so he might be a possibility.
Please e mail, or phone, whichever is most convenient to you.
Many thanks
Tony

Hi Guys. If you log onto

We have a two-page spread of the 2017 Newton Abbot Reunion. I know Historic Steve likes to achieve publications from the wire and as this is in digital form it won’t be difficult to do. Thanks again to all who attended and to all that helped me in organizing a very successful and memorable reunion.

Chalky, commiserations on your flooding. Sadly I've seen it before too often in business premises. Not wishing to sound wise after the event, but, I always turn the stop cock off when going on holiday. Even in the warmer climes. Its good to read you have such loyal staff.

You are so right. In fact just today we have stated that all is turned of at weekends and bank holiday breaks. Just wish we had thought of this before.
The damage is huge to flooring some 3,000 sq ft of carpet. All plaster in the down stairs offices is of. A 3 toilets ripped out. Desks, computers and screens, filling cabinets etc all lots.
