I am back in the New Luce Saddle after a quick trip over the water to Larne and a visit to John in his sick bed. I met with Ian and Sheila Hutton who also gave me a bed and fed me for the night. Ian and I served (along with Chalky White and others)with the Sappers after Denbury. Although we obviously found John to be very poorly he had a sparkle in his eyes with a smile a mile wide. He definitely thought and relished the fact that he was on parade. We had a good chin wag with the help of Heather who is holding up very well despite her obvious worry and stress. John had in his possession an Album with quite a few Denbury Pics (Heather has said she will make sure that Steve Wright has sight at the appropriate time) He also had a Denbury welcome booklet with yours truly featured along with Phil Castle climbing some on some Rocks down at the coast. I seem to remember the Yeti doing a tumble down the rocks shortly after taking the picture. We discussed quite a few of you scalawags at length as well as other aspects of his military career including 7 22 and 40 Sigs. We tried really hard but could not find a good word to say about any of you. Ian and myself being the exception to that rule. However the mention of Topper and a few others elicited deep throated chuckles. It would appear that some if not all of our night time adventures were discussed at length by the PS (we thought we were so cunning) some even before we carried them out. Apparently it was decided by Gregory et.al. that boys will be boys and as long as we did not go too far we would be given a little space but would also be shit on if caught. Ian and his lovely lady have departed in their van for quieter places for a while (it is the 12th of July thousands of Scots with their Trumpets Pipes and Drums descend on the area) Cairnryan port was throbbing as I disembarked yesterday afternoon. I only met John once and that was after Denbury. He gave me a bollocking which he and I both remembered-We could not remember why-You can bet it was well deserved. I have said farewell to John-A good soldier and mentor of Denbury Boys. Have fun Harry Waugh (K Troop 60-62)

Hi All and update from Heather on John Loveday Thanks for that Phil got a phone call from the hospital on sat when he was at dialysis and his line in his neck is loose they can t do anything about it as his arteries are so bad if it comes out they will keep him in and make him comfortable and he will only last about a week. But he went for dialysis on Tuesday and was ok and so far today ok but its not going to last as even if he scratches his neck it could come out so its like walking on egg shells. He loved his card and is showing it to everyone the girls who look after him are now saluting him and he is loving it x thanks again will keep you informed
